disaster response

disaster response

When hurricanes, tornados, floods or other natural disasters occur, Kingston has the mobility and the resources to respond.  We are specialists in developing sites in disaster areas for temporary housing for the victims and, we also provide debris removal, infrastructure support, environmental remediation, contaminant surveys, air quality monitoring, and other disaster related services.

In 2006, Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast region with high winds, flooding and widespread destruction.  Kingston responded to the urgent call to provide temporary FEMA housing in the most damaged areas southeast of the City of New Orleans and  within the metropolitan area.  Together with our world class A&E construction firm partner, and a talented design team, Kingston constructed thirteen housing parks totaling several hundred units, with our own resources in an accelerated time frame.  Because disaster areas typically are without the support of normal services, Kingston provides housing, electricity, water, food, fuel and all of the necessities for our own construction crews at our project sites.  Therefore, we are totally self supporting and independent, which allows us to focus on the task of completing urgently needed projects in record time with the highest amount of efficiency.

In the spring of 2007 an F5 tornado devastated the small farming community of Greensburg, Kansas.  Kingston was awarded a design-build sub-contract from our prime contractor partner to provide temporary housing for approximately 330 mobile homes on a 60 acre tract of farmland on the southeast edge of the destroyed town.  Mobilizing within 24 hours of award of contract and notice to proceed, Kingston essentially completed this project within 45 days of contract award. Less than three weeks later, we were totally complete and demobilized.  Our efforts were rewarded with praise from both our client and FEMA.  Kingston is proud of our disaster recovery accomplishments and in knowing that our efforts have helped relieve the suffering of disaster victims.  While we hope that disasters are few and small, we realize that they are inevitable and we are always prepared to respond to the call wherever and whenever it occurs.
